To setup Skype Voice Messaging, you need to:

Download and install a voicemail-enabled Skype client from here.
Note: Skype Voice Messaging client is not to be distributed at this time.
Enter the Voice Messaging voucher that you've received at the 'My Account'
page on Skype.com.


4. Once you account is activated you can record your personal Skype greeting by going File->Options->Voicemail in the Skype Client.

5. Press 'Record' to start recording you message. Listen to it, once your satisfied click 'Set' to save it as your message.


Note: Click 'Save' button when you exit to maintain the made changes.

Voice Messaging Frequently Asked Questions
How do I see if I have new messages?
You can see this on the start tab of Skype. Your voice messages will show up in your call list.

How much will Voice Messaging cost once it's launched?
Exact pricing details have yet to be finalized. You will be informed of the subscription costs before the trial ends.

I logged into Skype using a different computer, the messages I previously listened to are gone. What happened?
Once you play a message it is loaded and saved locally on your computer. If you log on using a different machine you will not be able to hear messages that you have previously listened to.

Once I play a message, where on my computer is it saved?
You messages are saved in C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Skype\username\voicemail, the are saved as .DAT files.

Can I export my message to .mp3 or .wav files?
Not at this time, but it is something we are looking into. Let us know about other suggestions you have by filling out our feedback form.

Can anyone leave me a message?
That depends on your privacy settings. If you've configured your settings so that only people you've authorized or who are on your contacts list can call you, then the same applies to your voice messages. If your settings allow anyone to call then anyone will be able to leave a message. You can access your privacy settings from Skype options.

How do I delete messages once I've listened to them?
Simply click the X located on the right hand side of the message and it will be deleted.

What happens to calls when I am on a another call?
You can set Skype to send all incoming calls to your voice message box if you are already talking to someone else. Go to File – Options – Voicemail to configure your settings.

How quickly will a call be directed to my voice message box if I don't answer?
You can set how long it will take (in seconds) before a call goes to voicemail by going to File – Options – Voicemail.

How long can a message be?
Currently, messages can be up to 60 seconds long.

How long do I have to retrieve a message before it is deleted?
Messages are first downloaded to your machine when you play them and then stored locally until you decide to delete them.

How can I invite friends to join Skype Voice Messaging testing?
Once we are ready to expand our testing you will see a link in your My Account page where you can go to invite new users.

How do I know if my friend/contact has voicemail capabilities?
If a Skype user has activated Voice Messaging, a small black casette tape icon will appear next to their contact name.

Can I leave a voice messages to my friend/contact even if he is not online?
Yes. If your friend is offline or even if their computer isin't on, you can still leave a message and they can retrieve it next time they log on to Skype.
