　發生火災的大樓是中央電視台新台址工程的重要組成部分——電視文化中心，高159米，被稱為北配樓，鄰近地標性建築的央視新大樓。央視新台址工程位於北京市朝陽區中央商務區（ＣＢＤ）核心地帶，由荷蘭大都會（ＯＭＡ）建築事務所設計，並於2005年5月正式動工。整個工程預算達到50億元人民幣
