1970年Eric Clapton加入Derek and the Dominos，宇宙無敵超級偉大專輯"Layla"出現了！這張專輯特別要請Duane Allman助陣在這張專輯中Clapton徹底傾訴了自己對好友George Harrison（披頭四吉他手）之妻Pattie的愛意及畸戀中自己的痛苦。

曠世鉅作"Layla"一曲中，Duane Allman彈奏slide guitar，Clapton嘶喊絕望的歌聲，兩人對飆solo，到後段氣氛一轉，鋼琴與吉他以優美感傷的旋律收尾。Duane Allman在不久後因車禍去世，使"Layla"更顯得珍貴，"Layla"可說是Clapton一生中顛峰之作。
