曾在福嚴女眾佛學院讀過書的法遵(圓行)比丘尼,於住茅蓬期間,以四年的歲月寫了一本二十餘萬字的《滅苦之道》,自己用電腦打字裝訂了二十本贈送師友,我有幸分得一本,看了如獲至寶,驚奇不已!此書的主要論點以四聖諦為核心,作者以其生華的妙筆,銳利的智慧,生動的描述,深入的見地,如數家珍般層層剖出苦聖諦、苦集聖諦、苦滅聖諦、苦滅道跡聖諦,及其與此四者有關的五受陰、六入處、緣起、緣生等法之精義,一路讀來,不忍釋手!我出家學佛將近七十年了,也曾閱讀一些古今僧俗大德們的名著,卻尚未見過有人以四諦為題,寫出這麼一本皇皇鉅著。使我更感驚奇的是:她多年住在山野偏僻的茅蓬裡,既無師友相互切磋琢磨,亦缺乏參考所需的典籍,那些有關南傳、北傳、大乘、小乘、密宗、顯教、哲學、科學,以及中國各家思想學說等等的資料從何而來?如果沒有足夠的資料供她參考,怎麼可能娓娓談來,有條不紊,頭頭是道?同時他在書中廣徵博引,也談論不少看來與四諦法毫無關係的問題,但其用意無非是在藉以說明:純正的佛法是不應與那些世間法混為一談的,假使拿純正的佛法來與世間法相提並論,佛法也就失去它不共世間的特性了!因此,她在本書的〈前言〉和〈後語〉中,曾各提出七點感歎之詞,讀後不使你目瞪口呆者,幾希!她說:<font color='#ffffff' size='1'><br>㊣佛教天地版權所有㊣ ㊣佛教天地版權所有㊣<br></font>

由上所引各點可知,法遵比丘尼寫這本書的動機,既不是為了標奇立異,也不是為了驚世駭俗,她是老老實實、完完全全在『以佛法研究佛法』,並希望對目前所流傳的,諸家爭鳴、百花齊放、一人一號各吹各調的佛法,能夠發生一些正本清源,去蕪存菁的作用。她在〈跋〉中似乎也在表明此一意願。如說:『書中的確對現今普遍流傳的佛法作了駁斥,這一點我感到很抱歉,但為釐清正見卻不得不這麼作。雖然,回想到歷史上真實存在過的佛陀、正法和聖弟子們已委屈了兩千多年,這麼長久以來的歲月裡,聖人們打不還手、罵不還口,<font color='#ffffff' size='1'><br>㊣佛教天地

尚未離欲的我確實抱有替他們說說公道話的想法。但更重要的還是由於我見識到穿鑿附會的腐蝕力量。傳統佛教最拿手的就是『圓融』這種闔家歡樂的團圓喜劇,四聖諦可以和空假中三諦劃上等號,再和真俗二諦劃上等號,乃至世間一切善法皆是佛法……等等。為了極力避免《相應修多羅》或《滅苦之道》在後人善意弭諍的牽強附會下,又淪落到這種搓湯圓式的大圓融,也就只好很傷感情地與傳統佛法劃清界線』。<font color='#ffffff' size='1'><br>㊣佛教天地版權所有㊣ ㊣佛教天地版權所有㊣<br></font>
她這一『與傳統佛法劃清界線』的論調,乍看似乎否定了所有的傳統佛法,其實不然。『劃清界線』的宣示,她的意思是:橋歸橋、路歸路,在提醒大家不要把大小空有、世出世間等法如搓湯圓似的混在一起。實際上她對傳統佛法還是相應尊重的。所以她在要『與傳統佛法劃清界線』之後,接著又說:『但我明白,絕大多數的人都固執於愛戀生命、愛戀自己的思想、認知與心靈,真正有志尋求生命真義的人並不多見,願意致力於解脫的人更是少之又少,對那絕大多數的人而言,宗教是必須、重要的。正法雖實際主導他們的生命運作,但<font color='#ffffff' size='1'><br>㊣佛教天地版權所有㊣ ㊣佛教天地版權所有㊣<br></font>
在他們的主觀認知中反而當作是不切實際的,因此從正法質變而成的佛教也會是必須、重要的。佛陀在世時,只向有智慧探究真理的人講說正法,從不揭竿起義破斥任何宗教信仰,我本人也同樣不反對宗教信仰式的佛教。畢竟在現今世界各文明當中,佛教仍是最寬廣、最包容、最理性、最和平的宗教,它慈悲圓融的特質能夠涵容所有宗教的優點並加以超越,卻不會產生偏執、階級的宗教鬥爭及害人不淺的迷信。這是佛教的珍貴處,雖然它對解脫、涅槃、究竟苦邊沒有絲毫助益,但絕大多數人卻不想要涅槃而需要佛教,就著這不容否認的事實,我衷心地祝願佛教繼續在世間作為人類心靈的依歸處』。<font color='#ffffff' size='1'><br>㊣佛教天地

從以上文中可略知《滅苦之道》的作者所以要『與傳統佛法劃清界線』,那是因為傳統佛法已多變成宗教信仰式的佛教了!雖然『在現今世界各文明當中,佛教仍是最寬廣、最包容、最理性、最和平的宗教』,可是它對『解脫、涅槃、究竟苦邊』已『沒有絲毫助益』。所以她不得不『很傷感情地』大聲疾呼,要『與傳統佛法劃清界線』!那麼既然如此,『宗教信仰式的佛教』還有什麼價值呢?因為『絕大多數人卻不想要涅槃而需要佛教』。因此她說:『我衷心地祝願佛教繼續在世間作為人類心靈的依歸處』。如果有人學佛全是為了『解<font color='#ffffff' size='1'><br>㊣佛教天地版權所有㊣ ㊣佛教天地版權所有㊣<br></font>

最後我想要說的是:本書因作者僅裝訂了二十本,傳閱之後反應熱烈,有不少人打電話來要求正式出版流通,甚至已有人自動寄錢來助印。於是我與作者商量,決定先印一千五百本流通。為了避免受人增刪截改盜印,訂為版權所有,但仍以結緣為主。還有法遵曾托我代為請求印順導師寫篇批評指導的序言,印公老人因年邁手抖不能執筆,不過他老人家看了之後以『法燈永續』四字作為評語,可知印公對本書已予印可。可是法遵認為:『法燈永續四字雖是印公的意見卻非印公親筆,恐人誤會不敢印在書上』,轉而要我寫幾句話。老實說我<font color='#ffffff' size='1'><br>㊣佛教天地版權所有㊣ ㊣佛教天地版權所有㊣<br></font>
